In the Flesh with Lizzie Donohue

In the Flesh with Lizzie Donohue

Hello and welcome to In the Flesh, a new-ish column wherein Team Flesh asks members of the beloved Flesh community a few random (and, we hope, fun) questions. Meet Lizzie Donohue, fashion student, expert thrifter, and one of the lovely faces of Pure Flesh Liquid Foundation.

1. What is your full name?

My full name is Elizabeth Donohue, but only my mom calls me that and it's when she's mad at me. Everyone else calls me Lizzie or Liz.

2. Where are you from?

I'm from Long Island! Very exotic, I know, haha.

3. What’s your shade of Flesh?

Froth. I'm really pale!

4. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?

The first thing I do when I wake up is wash my face with Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser, then I apply the rest of my skin-care routine, which varies. I can't leave the house without wearing Krave Beauty's The Beet Shield as a protection against the harsh NYC air and sun.

5. What is your signature beauty look?

I love, love, love the look of clean and dewy skin. So, for me, the most important part is my skin-care routine, then comes makeup, which usually consists of a skin tint, a brow gel, mascara, and lots and lots of lip balm. Then finally, I add  some Fleshpot onto my lids and cheeks and I feel like a glowy queen ready to conquer the day!

I have this new rule of never letting myself spend more than 30 minutes on my makeup. I've found that this has helped me stop from picking myself apart for too long. Although, after starting Euphoria, I'm really inspired to get crazier with my looks.

6. Last book you read?

I just finished Brave New World by Aldous Huxley! I'm on this massive sci-fi, dystopian, cyberpunk wave right now, so that's been a massive inspiration for a lot of the projects that I've been doing. And I just started reading Trick Mirror by Jia Tolentino and I'm absolutely obsessed. I highly, highly recommend reading anything she's written!

7. What makes you laugh?

The official Calico Critters (@calicocritter) Instagram account. Trust me.

8. What is your drink of choice?

Either white wine or any kind of coffee!

9. What’s your mantra right now?

My mantra is usually whatever my Co-Star notifies me. Right now it's, "Past mistakes can teach you how to change."

10. What is your earliest beauty memory?

Honestly, my earliest beauty memory is drawing makeup and tattoos on my Barbies with permanent markers.

11. Do you have a hidden talent?

I can play the guitar and ukulele!

12. What’s your greatest virtue?

Probably critical thinking.

13. What is your favorite nude painting?

I love this question! Probably the Rokeby Venus by Diego Velázquez. I love its story and its ties to the feminist movement.

14. What advice would you give your younger self?

Love what you love, have faith in yourself, and be your weird little self no matter what.

15. What, besides sliced bread, is the best thing since sliced bread?

Seinfeld. Whenever I'm sad I just put the show on, and my mood immediately shifts.

16. When do you feel most at home in your flesh?

Right after I've showered and applied my skin-care routine, and usually sitting in bed with dark chocolate, typing away on my computer.

17. Is there anything else you want to tell us about yourself?

I'm just going to oh-so-casually plug the magazine that I'm the web director of, blushmagfit.com. Blush is the student-run online and print magazine at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and we put out some really cool stuff. Plus the executive team is so, so dedicated and amazing. The site is my child <3
